Welcome to living history

Uniqueness: The hotel Hirschgasse Heidelberg is unique and provides hotel accommodation in luxurious rooms and suites. It is not only the oldest hotel of Heidelberg but also the oldest student duelling house of Germany. Count von Bismarck fought duels here and Mark Twain wrote about us in his book “A tramp abroad”. It enjoys a long tradition and is run by the Kraft family with much dedication. It was first time documented in a love story in 1472. In connection with the former settlement of Dagersbach, which was located here in our little Hirschgasse valley it was spoken of in 1261. Pilgrims came by here on their way to the monasteries on the Holy Mountain to rest and refresh. Now it provides uniquely appointed luxurious rooms and suites designed by Laura Ashley.
Hideaway: Excellently hidden, in a little side valley of the Holy Mountain, at the ascent to the world-famous Philosophers walk it provides you with a heavenly peaceful hide away oasis. You feel between the worlds: indulge in the softness of the nature, or follow the heartbeat of the town.
Upon arrival we will tune you with fine refreshments for your Heidelberg experience, which you can enjoy with a glass of wine and birds chirping happily  away on our rose terrace underneath shadowy old trees. Our vineyard “Sunny Side upon the Bridge” is just a stone throw away and yields a  perfect Riesling and Pinot Noir.
Treat for taste buds: Choose from two outstanding restaurants: the rustic Mensurstube with over 250 year old tables and the gourmet restaurant Le Gourmet will challenge  your taste buds pleasantly. We take care of you with professional service and dedication to genuine hospitality, for which the Hirschgasse is renown for decades. We feel honoured that outstanding guides like  Frommers Fodors , and also “1000 places to see before you die” include us in their prestigious publications.
Conquer Heidelberg: The conquering of the town is best to start with a walk alongside the River Neckar embankment, the Heidelberg castle always dominantly  in view, which has fascinated many painters, amongst them one of the biggest British painters: Joseph Mallord William Turner who painted the Heidelberg castle from the Hirschgasse in 1844. The marvellous walk will lead you across the Old Bridge, right in the heart of the Old City, with it sights, shops, cafes and restaurants.  As a Member of “Small Luxury Hotels of the World”  we are committed  to fulfil  high expectations.
